Each document presented for recording must include or comply with the following general requirements:
With regard to the vertical sides of the page, a minimum of 0.5 inches must be left blank on each side of the document. If the first page of a document does not comply with these legal requirements, attach a separate page to the front of the document that meets these spacing criteria and which includes the title or titles of the document.
The County Recorder will accept any document that California law authorizes or requires to be recorded, provided it includes the necessary information, is photographically reproducible, and the appropriate fees and taxes have been paid.
Fees to the Government:
A certified copy for a fee of $6 for the first page and $3 for each additional page may be requested and received immediately upon recording of the document.
All applicable fees must be paid at the time of recording.
Senate Bill (SB) 2 - Affordable Housing and Jobs Act Fee
Under SB 2, documents submitted for recording at the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk may incur an additional fee of $75. This fee applies to each real estate instrument, paper, or notice that is required or allowed by law to be recorded, unless specifically exempt from recording fees. The fee is assessed per transaction for each parcel of real property, with a maximum total fee of $225.
- The fee will be calculated based on the number of documents, up to a maximum of $225.
This fee does not apply to any real estate instrument, paper, or notice related to a transfer subject to a documentary transfer tax as outlined in Section 11911 of the Revenue and Taxation Code, nor does it apply to transfers of residential dwellings to owner-occupiers.
A declaration of valid exemption can be included on the document's front or on a cover page that becomes part of the document before submission to the Recorder. If no valid exemption is declared, the fee will be applied.
